CBD extraction types: what you need to know about your investment
Abundance is Wellness — Everything you need to know about Broad-spectrum, Full-spectrum, and CBD Isolate
Your intuition was right…
Whether you are CBD curious or a connoisseur, there was a moment when you got your first ping about CBD. And call it chance or call it fate, that ping led you here.
At Alchemiss we believe in plant alchemy. Your body is the alchemist, and plant alchemy is how your body receives the powerful nutrients and healing energy that plants provide.
Cue the notorious CBD. Aka cannabidiol, one of over 100 chemical compounds called phytocannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. Arguably one of the most popular plant nutrients today, CBD has been praised for its potential in pain and anxiety relief. Rightfully so as mounting evidence begins to show the benefits of hemp-derived cannabinoids in both prevalent facets of life, evermore relevant in aftermath of 2020.
That said, we’re in the Age of Aquarius now, where it’s not enough to just survive. It’s time for us to thrive, as individuals and in our communities. 2021 is calling all higher selves to step out into the limelight, no more playing small.
Which is why we’ve created products that take a holistic approach, leveraging the diverse benefits of the hemp plant far beyond CBD.
The hemp plant may be the most abundant source of our infamous friend CBD, but it also caters itself to a plethora of other cannabinoids and beneficial plant compounds.
Hemp is home to terpenes, fatty acids, flavonoids, and other phytocannabinoids including Cannabinol (CBN) and Cannabigerol (CBG).
Through the extraction process, any or all of these can be removed to create one of three types of hemp extract.
But first let’s get clear on an often misconstrued fact.
HEMP SEED OIL + HEMP OIL are not the same as CBD + HEMP EXTRACT
HEMP SEED OIL (Hemp oil) vs. HEMP EXTRACT (CBD, CBG etc.)
Hemp seed oil, also referred to as hemp oil, is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp seeds do not contain any CBD, however they do contain a variety of beneficial nutrients such as Omega 3 + Omega 6 fatty acids. Hemp seed oil is edible and is often used in skincare products.
Hemp extract contains CBD and other cannabinoids and plant compounds extracted from the stalk and flower of the hemp plant.
THE DIFFERNECE – BROAD SPECTRUM VS FULL SPECTRUM VS ISOLATE
When looking at the labels of CBD products it’s important to know exactly what you are putting in your body. Every product should list what kind of extract it is Broad, Full or “Pure” aka Isolate.
CBD Isolate = essentially pure cannabidiol (no THC or any other compounds)
Broad-spectrum hemp extract = CBD + other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and other naturally occurring plant compounds, no THC
Full-spectrum hemp extract = CBD + other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, and other naturally occurring plant compounds, < 0.3% THC
At Alchemiss, all of our products are formulated with a superior Broad-Spectrum oil unless stated otherwise. Achieving all the benefits of Full-Spectrum CBD, THC-free, with the added experience of adaptogens and nootropics (we’ll dive into these later).

Let’s talk about a little biological “miracle” called the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect is a phenomenon where all the various plant molecules (CBD + other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, etc.) essentially work together to create enhanced benefits to the human body.
Much like how our star charts allow us to understand how all the parts of ourselves work together, understanding the spectrum of cannabinoids and naturally occurring compounds in the hemp plant allows us to see the bigger picture of all the benefits plant-alchemy has to offer.
Though more research is needed to determine exactly how the Entourage Effect works within the human body, we do know that these cannabinoids work with our Endocannabinoid System (aka ECS). The ECS has a network of receptors throughout the human body’s cells and tissues and is responsible for maintaining homeostasis within the body including balancing our stress, pain, and inflammation responses.
Research suggests CBD specifically, may help the ECS to use more of its own endocannabinoids as well by eliminating the enzyme responsible for consuming them, allowing more to stay in circulation in the body.
Whether it’s through the abundance of phytocannabinoids in broad-spectrum hemp extract, or in boosting our own naturally produced endocannabinoids, our body’s overall wellness is elevated when the ECS is supported.
At ALCHEMISS we want you to thrive. Over the course of our blog series, we’ll be diving into how mentality, science, and ritual can transform us, body, mind, and spirit, with a little bit of help from hemp.
